Creators

"To hell with circumstances; I create oppurtunities."

I started “Call Me Creator”. What Being a creator means to me is being able to express yourself. I found that through creating videos and artistic projects for myself that creativity is an underrated gift given to each and everyone of us. Everyone is a creator in their own way whether they realize it or not. I feel as though I’ve been creating all my life but the ways in which have, have also grown and evolved with me. I began my real interest in video creation my sophomore year when I took a class on it. I have been creating videos ever since then. My passion behind the Call Me Creator brand is to turn it into a business with intent of bringing out the next generation of creators and inspire them to take full advantage of the creativity they were given. Currently I attend CETYS Universidad in Mexicali, Mexico. My goal as a creator is to create a full length movie, become monetized on YouTube, and raise over 10,000 dollars to donate back to the next generation of creators and give them access to equipment otherwise unavailable to them.

I started my creative journey freshman year of high school while taking photography classes. From taking pictures for my school auction to photographing the city that I was raised in, I’ve always wanted to document and capture the simplest beauties in our everyday life. I am currently a freshman at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon studying media arts and psychology, and am the co-founder of Call Me Creator. As the son of a photographer, this was a large stepping stone that enabled me to start my Creator journey. I didn’t take my creative side seriously though until my senior year of high school, where I was able to take my photography skills and transform them into developing my videography one so that I was able to help build Call Me Creator with Jett. Being a Creator to me means that I am able to fully express the most creative parts of my mind so that I can transform the mental ideas into my physical reality. It also means though that I can not only create things for myself but help create a better reality for others. That’s why Jett and I want Call Me Creator to be mainly centered around the community around us so we can highlight our lives as well as encourage those around us to bring out the Creator inside of them.

For some creating can be a hobby or something that one just enjoys. To me, creating is my way of telling a story. In a lot of my art it often reflects how I’m feeling or what is interesting me in that moment. Art and creations are universal. You don’t need to speak my language to understand my art. I love being a creator because no one can tell me I’m right or wrong.  It can be anything I want it to be, any imperfections is perfect because it’s my own.  I’m a multimedia artist, I’ve been drawing my whole life and have really gotten into painting the past 4 years. I’ve taken a new step into the art of rug making and plan to create designs as well as do commissions to sell. As I said I’m multimedia so I tend to work on pieces simultaneously. I plan to also take my skills to the sculpting world to express myself in a new way. I attend Morgan State University as a student athlete, excelling as a softball player. I’m an Applied Liberal Arts Major, taking interest in Art and Business.

What does it mean to be a creator? In my humble opinion a creator is somebody that can put their passion into a physical medium. To have the ability to make your passion into something tangible is not as easy a feat to accomplish. When I was younger I would always think of cool stories with the characters that I loved.  It wasn't until my junior year of high school that I started making my own characters and stories. One day after school I grabbed my laptop and I started to create my characters. I started to think about a storyline and antagonist for them to go against. Sometime after that once I was satisfied with what I had come up with and I started to write. I was beyond proud of myself I couldn't believe that I was actually creating a story of my own; I wrote about six chapters or so before I hit the wall that every creator is scared to hit. I started to overthink, I was questioning whether my narrative made sense, and I started to question whether people would even want to read what I was producing. Before I actually started on the creative process I always thought of it as a straight path that you walk. You plan your walk and you keep on walking until you get to your destination; I couldn't have been further from the truth. The best way I can describe the creative process is thinking of it as digging tunnels underground. You can start digging one tunnel but after a while you get bored or you run into some form of issue so you start digging another one. When I started thinking about the creative process in that way I was able to keep myself from getting so hung up on the details and I was able give myself time to figure things out. Now that you know a little bit about me we can talk about the juicy stuff like my future goals. As a really big anime and manga fan I aspire to make my own anime and manga one day. I'm also a huge One Piece fan so I also want to make an adventure story that will be just as epic; probably not in length but definitely in quality. Last but not least I want to reach at least one thousand subscribers on YouTube and become monetized so if you like anime content and my beautiful smile go ahead and subscribe to Dougee Fresh.
